LS multi-family building: two generations live in a house that looks like a flower pot
This building with a residential function, which has been demolished and rebuilt and expanded, using prefabricated wood, is located in the suburban area south-west of the municipality of Pergine Valsugana.
The design of these homes involves architecture, interior design with the design including that of custom-made furniture and advice on which design furniture to buy. We then moved on to the garden and roof terrace project which makes this compact house look like in a flower pot. Our architecture studio faced a complex design, also from the point of view of urban planning practices: the entire process required a good dose of perseverance on the part of the clients, but we all agree that it was really worth it.
LS multi-family building: the dream comes true
The design intention is to realise this property as a house for two generations, in which the grandparents’ house is the basis for that of both parents and children. A building that is admittedly contemporary in form and technology and that will tell the story of the area and the families who live there.
The LS multi-family building is located on a flat lot in the south-west area of the municipality of Pergine Valsugana. It is arranged on three floors and consists of three apartments occupied by the same number of families, two of which are linked by family ties: one on the ground floor, one on the first floor and the third occupying the first floor (with the sleeping area) and the second (with the living area). The accommodation is surrounded by a narrow private garden, partially cultivated as a vegetable garden, while from the upper floors it is possible to admire the landscape of the Valsugana. Crowning the third floor is a hanging garden.
LS multi-family building: our project between architecture, interior design, exterior design and the completed work
The building which also hides the downspouts, exterior flashings and other tin work deliberately differs from those nearby since its roof is flat. The building, plastered and painted with a single colour, links to the natural landscape from which it will enjoy great views and therefore reveal its nature as an energy-saving construction, respectful of natural resources. Outside, the form is characterized by large glazed openings; they allow both to benefit from the solar contribution in winter and to fully enjoy the beautiful panorama.
From a compositional point of view, the form is conceived as a singular one, in fact the elevation faithfully follows the shape of the ground and first floors, introducing corner loggias. The crowning hanging garden is intended to evoke life that is constantly renewed, and once completed the building will appear similar to a large vase of flowers. To embellish the form, a mirror coating marks the string course between the first and second floors, which is also necessary for plant engineering reasons. On the flat roof of the third level there are solar and photovoltaic panels.
The interior design mainly concerned the accommodation on the first and second floors and the spiral staircase connecting the two levels. The furniture plays on the combination of mineral and vegetable materials: the Venetian terrazzo floor and light wood. The staircase, which symbolically refers to the value of communication, is the heart of the accommodation: the living spaces wind around it, interspersed with corner glass loggias overlooking the landscape. A fireplace flanks the sofa in the living area; it would be easy to imagine sitting right there and admiring the sun’s rays crossing the loggia at sunset.
