MM multi-family building: a long and narrow house, aimed at the landscape and full of history
A long and narrow lot in the peripheral area of the Municipality of Fai della Paganella, upon land with a constant slope, with an existing house to be demolished, rebuilt in wood and enlarged, but above all … a natural landscape so beautiful that it’ll take your breath away!
The design of this multi-storey house involves both architecture and interior design including the design of custom-made furniture and advice on which design furniture to buy.
The projects of our architecture studio often start from historical research on the origin of place names. In fact Fai is a phytotoponym, that is a proper name of a place inspired by a plant name. In this case it is the beech tree that gave rise to the name Fai. As for Paganella, it is assumed to be a diminutive form of Pagano, perhaps the name of the owner of the land.
MM multi-family building: the dream comes true
The morphology of the ground and the shape of the existing building, which is both narrow and long, suggests a “decisive” project and a compact but lively volume. And so we thought of a building that incorporates a beech tree, as long as a telescope, through which you can observe both the landscape and the surrounding history. The intent is to build the house for two families linked by kinship ties. A building that is admittedly contemporary in form and use, suitable for the needs of those who will live in it, yet respectful of the naturalness and beauty of the landscape. The will is to allow the reading of this volume (!) The future of the property, rather like a book, will tell the story of the place and the families who live there.
Two energy-saving apartments will be built, equipped with large openings to the east, south and west to exploit the sunshine in the winter and to fully enjoy the beautiful landscape, whilst protecting themselves from overheating in the summer through the use of loggias and sun screens.
MM multi-family building: our project between architecture, interior design, exterior design and the completed work
The building, although consisting of only two floors above ground, deliberately differs from those nearby since its roof is pitched, and slightly inclined. A building with this type of roof wants to bind itself to the environment from which many views will be enjoyed and therefore reveal its nature as an energy-saving construction, respectful of natural resources. The very narrow two-storey property set back from the road will ensure maximum visibility of the surrounding landscape.
The building will also be inspired by the name Fai della Paganella and therefore by the beech tree: for this reason the long sides, with wedge-shaped parts, will have the appearance of “rough-hewn boards”. A beech, of the tricolor species, will be in the centre of the south facade. The facades will be plastered and painted with a colour tending towards violet, which is the colour that best matches that of the leaves of the aforementioned plant.
From a distributive point of view, the first apartment occupies both the basement and the ground floor, while the second occupies the first floor.
The solar and photovoltaic panels will be placed on the green treated roof. The fixtures will be low-emissivity and in lacquered wood in the color of the external walls, the sunshades in natural aluminum, the glass parapets while the external floors in colored draining concrete and in gray-tinged wood.
